CHINESE BREED ENTERS BRITAIN AGAIN AFTER 30 YEARS
In July 2011 the first Meishan pigs to be seen in the Uk since the 80's, arrived in Scotland. Brought over from Holland, by author and pig keeper Linda McDonald-Brown and her husband Graham, their plan was to eventually build up a herd of these pigs and introduce them to smallholders as an alternative pig to keep across the Uk
We are pleased to report therefore that after buying stock from Linda and Graham, we have become the very first owners and future breeders of Meishans in England. Our aim is to introduce these wonderful pigs to other smallholders and over time build up an english herd. If you are interested in any aspect of these pigs or are interested in owning some, we can be seen with the pigs and hopefully litters at various agricultural and smallholder shows this coming summer. For further information on which shows, and any other advice you would like, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Similar in height to a Berkshire, Meishans have wonderful
laid back personalities and are ideal for families and novices. They also give wonderful meat, always a plus for us as smallholders.
They are incredibly friendly pigs who I admit have completely won myself and my family over, and we believe they will appeal not only to smallholders, but butchers, and chefs who are looking for something a little bit more upmarket, as well as commercial pig farmers who want to improve their litter size, and those who just like pigs.
OUR FIRST LITTER AND THE FIRST TO BE BORN IN ENGLAND IN RECENT TIMES IS DUE FEBRUARY.
